Colours cascading down like autumn

Drifting on dreams

Of the man who dreamt all

But washed ashore

To a place with none

Something I can see

But rather close my eyes to feel

Like a smooth breeze carrying spring petals

Colours of pink and orange on my cheeks

Placed there gently with an oil of ochre

Each stroke, roughly placed with such softness

Gives the feeling of familiarity

I’ve known him all my life

Like a brother, a friend

Maybe a distant relative that wrote something sweet in my diary

Isn’t it wonderful

When a single sunflower can fill your heart

With glowing pride

For a man you never knew

For the flat lands you have known forever

I open my window to the sound of a sparrow

I look at the black outline of its eye

Cotton above it all

In the puddle I stepped in with my boots

Realising

I miss him.
